What is Invisalign® and How Does It Work?
Comprehensive Invisalign® Treatment
Dental Alignment in Manchester & Windsor, Connecticut
Invisalign® is a clear alternative to traditional metal braces. It uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually move your teeth into the desired position. Invisalign® is virtually invisible, so you can straighten your teeth without anyone knowing, and you can still eat and drink what you want. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. The best part is that Invisalign® treatment is typically faster and more comfortable than traditional braces.
Signs You Need Invisalign®
There are many reasons why you might need Invisalign®. Some of the most common reasons are:
- Crowded teeth:When your teeth are too close together, it can be difficult to brush and floss properly. This can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.
- Gaps in teeth: Gaps between your teeth can cause food to get stuck, which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. They can also make your teeth look uneven.
- Overbite:An overbite is when your upper teeth bite too far over your lower teeth. This can cause pain in your jaw and damage to your lower teeth
- Underbite:An underbite is when your lower teeth bite too far forward of your upper teeth. This can also cause pain in your jaw and damage to your upper teeth.
- Crossbite:A crossbite is when your teeth don't line up properly when you bite down. This can cause uneven wear on your teeth, gum disease, and bone loss.
- Open bite:An open bite is when there is a space between your upper and lower teeth when you bite down.
The Invisalign® Process
The Invisalign® process is simple. First, you’ll need to visit an orthodontist or dentist to see if Invisalign® is right for you. If it is, they’ll take X-rays, pictures, and impressions of your teeth, which will be used to create a digital 3D model of your teeth. Once that happens, the following will occur:
- Your orthodontist or dentist will develop a treatment plan just for you. They'll use the digital model of your teeth to map out the exact movements of your teeth during treatment. They'll also decide how long your treatment will take and how many aligners you'll need.
- Then, you'll be given your first set of aligners. You'll need to wear them for about two weeks, and then you'll move on to the next set in the series. As you progress through the treatment, your teeth will gradually shift into place.
- You'll need to visit your orthodontist or dentist every four to six weeks to make sure your treatment is on track. Once your treatment is complete, you'll be given a retainer to wear at night to keep your teeth in place.
What is Invisalign® and How Does It Work?
- Invisalign® is practically invisible, which means that most people will never even know that you are wearing them.
- Invisalign® is much more comfortable to wear than traditional metal braces, as there are no wires or brackets.
- You can remove your Invisalign® aligners at any time, which means that you can eat whatever you want and brush and floss your teeth with ease.
