Getting Your First Aligners
Your Guide To Invisalign® Treatment
Connecticut's Professional, Experienced Invisalign® Providers
For many people, getting their first set of aligners is an exciting time. It can be a bit overwhelming, too. There’s a lot to learn about how to care for your aligners and how to make sure they work properly. But don’t worry! At Smile Center CT, we’re here to help you through the Invisalign® process
What Is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is a system of aligners made out of clear plastic that are custom-made for your teeth. They gradually move your teeth into the correct position over time. Most people wear Invisalign® for about 12 months, but treatment times can vary depending on your individual case.
What Should I Know About Invisalign®?
Here are a few things you should know about getting your first set of aligners:
- You'll need to wear them for at least 22 hours each day.
- You'll need to brush and floss your teeth after every meal.
- You'll need to clean your aligners every night.
- You'll need to see your dentist or orthodontist every six weeks for a check-up.
- You may experience some discomfort when you first start wearing the aligners. This is normal and should go away within a few days.
- You'll need to be careful with hard or sticky foods (like candy) that could damage the aligners.
- You'll need to be careful with activities (like sports) that could damage the aligners.
- You may need to wear a retainer after treatment is completed.
What Is the Treatment Process Like?
The first step in the treatment process is to schedule a consultation with your orthodontist. During the consultation, they will examine your teeth and discuss your treatment options with you. If you decide to move forward with Invisalign® impressions of your teeth will be taken and sent to the Invisalign® lab.
Once your aligners are ready, you’ll come back to the office to have them fitted. You’ll be given a treatment plan outlining how many aligners you’ll need and approximately how long treatment will take.
Every two weeks, you’ll move on to a new set of aligners. As you progress through treatment, your teeth will gradually shift into their correct positions. Every six weeks, you’ll come in for a check-up so your orthodontist can monitor your progress.
Getting Your First Aligners
- Invisalign® is practically invisible, which means that most people will never even know that you are wearing them.
- Invisalign® is much more comfortable to wear than traditional metal braces, as there are no wires or brackets.
- You can remove your Invisalign® aligners at any time, which means that you can eat whatever you want and brush and floss your teeth with ease.
